ABOUT US
Thundering Lions Kung Fu School has been serving the Denton, TX area since April 2014. The style that we practice is called Changquan 長拳 (Long Fist) an external style that emphasizes circular techniques, deep stances, powerful hand techniques and kicking skills. The style dates back to the Song Dynasty in China (960–1279), and is attributed to the Emperor Taizu. We have a structured graded curriculum consisting of, Open Hand Forms, Weapon Forms, Qin Na (Grappling & Submission), Sparring, Conditioning, Qigong and Tai Chi. The forms in our system are a judicious collection of classical (Pre 20th Century) and modern (Created in the 1900s) open hand and weapon sets, that provide the student with in depth training from foundation to intermediate and advanced degrees. At the advanced level of our system, Thundering Lions also has teaches a curriculum of Eagle and Monkey Boxing sets unique to Wing Lung/Bak Shaolin Eagle Claw.

THE MEANING OF OUR NAME
Thundering Lions Kung Fu follows traditional martial arts training methods and concepts, while adapting applications of these methods to suit modern needs. Thunder symbolizes for our school, the indomitable spirit of power and presence within each student. The martial spirit resonates from within like the sound of the electrical energy vibrating in the heavens. Lions are guardians, they also convey a sense of nobility and strength. The traditional arts are passed down from one generation to the next, with each new generation being entrusted as custodians of the tradition. As such each individual is a guardian in his or her own right, not only in the training hall but in every aspect of life.

SIHING ROBERT MCDONALD: ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR 師兄
Sihing Robert McDonald started training in the martial arts while serving in the US Navy at the “Authentic School of Karate” in Portsmouth, VA under the instruction of Willie R. Hunter Jr (now Tiger Academy of Martial Arts). While deployed in the Navy he practiced with others onboard his ship where he was introduced to many other martial art styles and developed a love for the Chinese martial arts. After taking some years off, Sihing McDonald finally started his journey into the Chinese Martial arts in 2007 in the Southern style of Choy Li Fut, eventually earning a Black Sash after several years. As one who is a constant learner he also studied for a while in Hung Ga under Master Joe Colvin at the Harmonious Fist Gung Fu Club, until his untimely passing in 2012. Having his internal passion for the arts rekindled he began looking for a Sifu who also shared that passion for learning and the arts, as well as the skill to apply the techniques, when he found Sifu Wayne Rodney of the Thundering Lions Kung Fu Kwoon and immediately started training in Northern Long Fist under Sifu Rodney. Over the years Sihing McDonald has competed and won several awards in numerous Martial Arts Tournaments throughout Texas and California, and through passion, dedication, and hard work he earned his Black Sash from Sifu Rodney in November 2019.
